Quality of Digital Learning Materials

Reints, A., & Wilkens, H. (2014). The quality of digital learning materials. Know What Works and Why, English Edition. UNESCO, Kennisnet

Summary

The challenge of the use of digital learning materials is to determine which of these materials actually contribute to the quality of the education provided. Reints and Wilkens give a detailed and sophisticated overview of criteria for digital materials evaluation and – what is even important – of the underlying instructional principles. It has been used as material for discussion within the training programme for the teaching staff of UNESCO-IHE.The criteria are organized into three groups: 1. Content, focused on selecting, organizing and packaging the content; 2. Pedagogy, focused on instructional strategies, learning activities and regulating learning processes; 3. Presentation, focused on text comprehension, visuals functions and lay-out.
