Overview of the OER challenges

Brahim, H.B., Khribi, M.K. & Jemni, M. (2017). Towards Accessible Open Educational Resources: Overview and Challenges. 6th International Conference on Information and Communication Technology and Accessibility, Muscat, Oman.

Summary

This paper provides an overview of the challenges surrounding OER accessibility, especially for people with disabilities, offering at the same time specific strategies to overcome this barrier.

The authors conclude that the infrastructure offering OER should always be tied to the overall goals of Openness including equity, accesibility and inclusivity in education for all. Herein, this text offers insight into the complexity of accessibility that does not start or end with the material or the platform alone. For anyone interested in OER, the insight into different understandings of OER delivery systems being studies comparatively offers insight into another level of accessibility that is not limited to a material.
