Summary

This paper points out that there is a great need for digital technologies in higher education. The literature review reflects on digital technologies set for higher education students to use in formal education, reviewing the years between 2012 and 2017. It shows that the use of technologies revealed to be positive to promote students' active engagement and participation in the learning process inside and outside the classroom.
