Break down barriers to open educational resources

Mishra, S. (2017). Open educational resources: removing barriers from within. Distance Education, 38(3), 369–380.

Summary

Mishra refers to the history of the overall ideas in order to reflect on current OER practices aiming to forge a needed conversation around increased openness and hoping to ultimately support access to knowledge for all. When considering the promises of Open, Mishra demands for more realistic claims taking into consideration that mere access to a resource does not have a pedagogical effect on its own but needs to be a part of a larger process.

This text is of special value for those trying to grasp a perspective of someone within the field actively addressing current main issues in the discussion of OER, which helps estimate other accounts and perspecitves within the literature.
